Sacramental Preparation for Children and Youth

At Incarnate Word Parish, preparing children for the Sacraments of Eucharist, Confirmation and Reconciliation involves a partnership among families, parishioners, catechists, and staff. As primary teachers and models of the Christian faith, parents are called on most importantly in the sacramental preparation of their children. To assist you in this experience, we invite parents to participate in an informational meeting that presents a theological basis for the Sacraments of Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist and what this preparation is all about.

Sacramental Preparation for Adults

Preparation for the initiation sacraments in adulthood typically takes place within the RCIA process.
The RCIA, or Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, is the process by which inquirers learn more about the faith of the Catholic Church and are accompanied by a caring and faith-filled group of parishioners as they progress in their journey of faith. This process acknowledges the gradual nature of conversion, and our goal as a parish community is to walk with you as you come to share our faith, hope, and love more deeply.

If you are interested in preparing for the initiation sacraments to enter the Catholic Church or to receive Confirmation as an adult, please contact Laura Flanagan ( This email address is being protected from spambots. Reconciliation

The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance, or Penance and Reconciliation) has three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In it we find God's unconditional forgiveness; as a result we are called to forgive others.

Specific preparation for this sacrament typically happens in second grade, in conjunction with preparation for Eucharist, and takes place either within the Incarnate Word School curriculum or the Parish School of Religion.

Parent Meeting for Reconciliation: October 2, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the lower church hall of Incarnate Word Parish.
Reception of the Sacrament:
November 27, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. for Class 2A (Ms. Albes) and Class 2-1 (Mrs. Oliverio).
December 4, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. for Class 2B (Mrs. Parisot) and Class 2-2 (Mrs. LaRue).

Eucharist

The Eucharist, or Communion, is the sacrament in which Jesus Christ gives his Body and Blood–himself–for us, so that we too might give ourselves to him in love and be united with him in Holy Communion. In this way, we are joined more deeply with our community – the one Body of Christ, the Church.

While the lives of their Catholic parents and family members always provide formation about the importance of the Eucharist, specific preparation for this sacrament typically happens in second grade, in conjunction with preparation for Reconciliation, and takes place either within the Incarnate Word School curriculum or the Parish School of Religion.

Parent Meeting for First Communion: January 22, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the lower church hall
Reception of the Sacrament: April 14, 2018
Mass at 9:30 a.m. for for Class 2A (Ms. Albes) and Class 2-1 (Mrs. Oliverio)

Confirmation

Confirmation is a Catholic sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of the baptismal gift of the Holy Spirit. Any baptized person who freely asks for and receives this sacrament receives, through the Holy Spirit, the strength to witness to God’s love and might in word and deed.

Preparation for this sacrament typically happens in eighth grade, either as part of Incarnate Word School's curriculum, the Parish School of Religion (for students who attend public school) or special sessions in the spring semester (for students who attend private Catholic schools unattached to a parish). Private school students should register using the forms below, and all parents should plan to attend a parent meeting in the fall.

Confirmation Mass: May 4, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Incarnate Word Parish Church with Bishop Hermann, celebrant.
