The Sacrament of Matrimony

Preparing for Marriage

Congratulations!

Couples planning marriage must contact a parish priest at least six (6) months in advance of the marriage, to ensure there is enough time for you to conscientiously consider and pray over this step in conjunction with the preparation materials.

Our priests and deacons are also available for marriage preparation. Either the bride or the groom should be a registered parishioner of Incarnate Word. It is important to start your marriage preparation by first talking to a priest, before other plans are made, and at least six months before the marriage. Arrangements for the wedding music must be made with our Director of Music Ministry. A Wedding Coordinator is available to assist with the Church Wedding.

In the meantime, below is an activity that you and your future spouse can undertake - discussing what family traditions you want to maintain or create as a new family unit. The first page includes examples of practices you might want to begin as a couple, and later with children, and the second page is for you to fill in with your own plans. Have fun!
